REFERENCE

I just finished filling out a reference for Happy.  Happy is the second friend of mine (and former RA) that I’ve filled out a reference form for, and Kyle being the first (a while back) for seminary.   

Its pretty exciting (!!!) to see these young men of God pursue further study to learn how to effectively impact people for the name of Christ.  Happy and Kyle have definitely demonstrated that when they were here and when they were RAs under me.  I can affirm that most definitely!  Life is busy and seminary doesn’t make it any less busy or comfortable.  In fact it can be very laborous and refining.   Yet I am confident in the Lord of their direction.  Its great to be a part of it – in fact, it really is humbling and a blessing to be able to reference and affirm their character, ability and potential - and even more humbling (and a blessing) to think that they both trust me (still) that much to do so.  

All that got me to think about what someone would write on my reference form for schooling, another job or whatever.  I wondered what someone would say about my faithfulness, or my character or my professionalism or my acadamia (ooh, lets not talk about that one), or my relationships/frienships, or my teaching, or my submission, or how I followed, or how I am with people, or my social skills, or my administrative skills, or my communication skills (oh no), or my personality, or multitasking, or longevity/endurance/stamina etc… and the list goes on. 

Then it made me think about who I would ask to write reference forms for me.  But I think its easier to think about who I wouldn’t ask – is that bad?  Anyway, I’ll let you know if I have need for references for anything sooner or later.
